TST has evolved into a vertically integrated producer, buyer, trader and processor of aluminum ingot, sow, billet, scrap and dross. Today, TST is one of the major American producers of secondary aluminum ingot and billet. TST is also a major distributor of primary aluminum foundry ingot, grain refiners and hardeners. Other services include worldwide trading of nonferrous scrap and other aluminum commodities. TST has become a World Class Manufacturing Organization. Additionally, through enhancements designed to further refine the operation and product quality, TST is taking aluminum to the next level.
HISTORY
TORRANCE IRON & METAL COMPANY was founded in 1946 by David Stein. In its early years TIMCO's principal business was the processing and trading of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. By the mid-1960's David's sons, Ronald and Robert Stein, joined TIMCO and began to shape the growth and dynamics of the company. During the early 1970's the first aluminum melting furnace was developed and built in TIMCO's Carson, California, facility. This furnace changed the direction of the company from a scrap processor to an aluminum alloy ingot producer which produced high quality alloys to specific customer requirements.
As growth continued the brothers further diversified TIMCO. By the mid-1970's, in an effort to expand and increase its growth potential, they entered into an association with STANDARD METALS RECYCLING. Owned and operated by Bill Levine, STANDARD METALS RECYCLING handled mainly aluminum scrap of large industrial manufacturers. Through the efforts of the three principals a new company, TANDEM INDUSTRIES, was formed to produce aluminum alloy billet, and purchased a facility adjacent to TIMCO in Carson where it designed and constructed a billet manufacturing facility.

In 1976 the three companies merged to form the present corporation of TST Inc. Under this structure the company continued to grow with the guidance of all three principles. Today TST Inc., with its three divisions, is a leader in the world market of aluminum alloy ingot, billet, and scrap metal trading. From its 1976 inception, the goal of the principals, was to create an environment of high quality and growth. With this philosophy, TST acquired additional land and created a new facility in Fontana, Ca., and a new scrap processing plant in Carson.
